CATEGORIES
All BJCP beer and mead categories and associated sub-categories from the 2008 BJCP style guidelines will be accepted in this competition. Complete style guidelines can be found at the BJCP site: http://www.bjcp.org. Entrants are responsible for placing their entry in the proper category. No entries will be re-classified. With fruit beer, herb beer, specialty beer, smoked beer and meads, be sure to list the special ingredients, i.e. cherries, coriander, smoked grains, honey, molasses… etc.
All 28 categories of beer, mead, cider and their associated sub-categories will be accepted. NOTE:Categories 1-19 are restricted to two entries per sub-category by Florida Homebrew Circuit rules. Every beer will be judged to the style that you designate on your entry forms. Any entry that has been disqualified for rules infractions will be judged, but will not be eligible for awards!
Additionally the Commander SAAZ Rocket Fuel Award specialty category has become a permanent category. The rules for the Rocket Fuel category are pretty simple. The beer must be based on a BJCP beer/mead/cider category, however, the sky’s no limit as far as alcohol content. A minimum of 10% ABV is required to enter the Rocket Fuel Category. Beers entered in the Rocket Fuel category may also be entered under a regular BJCP category as well. NOTE: Entries may not be fortified with distilled spirits!!
Categories may be combined or split at the discretion of the Competition Organizer and the Judge Director. If an insufficient quantity of entries is received in a given category, then those entries will be moved to combined categories to be judged according to the category originally entered.
AWARDS AND PRIZES
First, Second, and Third place medals will be awarded for each category, however entries must score a minimum of 25 points to be eligible for a medal. Winners will also receive a fabulous prize donated by one of our gracious sponsors.
First place winners of each category will advance to the Best of Show Round to compete for the Commander’s Cosmic Trophy, coveted by Rocket Scientists and Homebrewers throughout the known galaxy. This year as a special treat the BoS Beer will be brewed commercially by Chris McCall at the Cocoa Beach Brewing Company!!
Additionally first place winners in MCAB categories (see http://www.masterhomebrewer.org/ for details) will be eligible for the MCAB XII competition. This year Commander SAAZ is also a qualifying event for the 2010 Mazer Cup International Home Mead Makers Competition (http://www.mazercup.com/index.htm). This means that the gold medal winning meads from Commander SAAZ will be inserted directly into the second round at the MCI! So now Commander SAAZ is a qualifying competition to both the most prestigious beer and mead events in the country!
A separate Best of Show Cosmic Trophy will also be awarded for meads/ciders. A separate prize will also be awarded to the winner of this year’s Rocket Fuel Award.
GOOD LUCK!
