Happy brew year everyone!!

 

Things that just happened:

Winter Party was fabulous!! Many thanks to our gracious hosts, The Worme family for once again putting on a wonderful shindig and great food and brews were had by all!!! Thanks to everyone for coming out!!! Congrats to Brad and Anita on their acquisition of Party Pig!!!!

 

A giant congratulations to Ryan Robinson, our brewer of the year with 25 points on the Florida Circuit in 2024!!! Well done RyRob!!!!

 

Things that are about to happen:

Pay your 2025 dues!!! These dues help support our club events and get you other perks like free entry into beer competitions and so much more!!! PAY DUES HERE

 

Elections for 2025 board positions in SAAZ are over!!  The 2024 board members will be retaining their positions for the 2025 year.

SAAZ board 2025:

Education: Jon Nowlin

However due to term limits almost all of the current officers will be ousted from their positions in 2026 so if you are looking to become more involved volunteer for some of our events this year and get an idea of a board position that might be up your alley!!! If you are curious what the position entails contact the current board member, we are all happy to chat about the positions.

 

1/19, 2pm, January Meeting at the Dirty Oar!!! We will have an education topic with Jon Nowlin!!!! First beer is on the house for club members!! OMG vegan seafood truck will be at the oar from 1-4pm for your snacking needs this day. We will be discussing Brewers Bash plans and starting a beer list for pouring at the SAAZ tents, we will have two tents this year so that is 8 SAAZ beers being poured!! If you haven’t brewed a beer to potentially pour at the bash consider volunteering to help out at in other ways!! Bash volunteers will be meeting at 8 am behind the shell/stage for set up. The VIP room is one are that will need to be manned, 2 people are needed each hour from 12-5 for VIP. Come on out and support Dirty Oar and SAAZ at this awesome beerfest!!!!

1/25 Science on Tap at the Orlando Science Center 1-5pm, 12p for VIP. SAAZ will have a booth set up with our demonstration of the different characteristics of a stout carbonated with CO2 vs Nitro. Focus will be the basic breakdown of how the size difference of these two molecules affects the feeling and flavor of the beer. We will have SAAZ volunteers pouring these beers. Let’s all get science-y in the name of beer!!!

2/1/25 Cocoa Village Brewers Bash!!!!

3/1/25 (tentatively) Orlando Ale line pub crawl, part 2!!! We will be buying all 13 seats on the bus so we can fill it with SAAZ members!! Stay tuned for more details!

5/31/2025 Bottoms up Beer Run!!! Save the date!!! Get ready to run or volunteer!!! This a wonderful event that SAAZ puts on each year to raise money for St Baldricks and we need a lot of help to make it as fun and successful as possible. Last year we were able to make our highest donation yet –  $10,000 dollars!!! Let’s set ourselves up to raise as many funds as possible this year too!!!
As you all may know Jon Nowlin has a lot of beer stuff…and he recently acquired even more beer stuff. As he doesn’t really need all the stuff sometime soonish there will be a happy hour with yard sale of much of said stuff at Jon’s house once he gets things “organized” Stay tuned for updates!!

 

Upcoming Competitions:

3/2025 “Irish Spring” Intraclub Homebrew Competition. The theme is Irish with entries provided at the March meeting and subsequent awards at the April meeting. The winner will receive a $50 gift card to Total Wine. We will also have a People’s Choice award at the April meeting.

Competition rules:

The competition is limited to members who are current in their dues. One entry per person, with 3 bottles provided per entry.  Entries are limited to the following categories:

15. Irish Beer
29A. Fruit Beer
29B. Fruit and Spiced Beer
30A. Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer
32. Smoked Beer
33. Wood Beer

Beers in the specialty categories 29-33 MUST have a noticeable Irish base. Judging will follow the 2021 BJCP Guidelines. The cutoff date for entry delivery is the March meeting. Judging will take place over the month between the March and April meetings. The winner will be announced at the April meeting.

3/15/2025 Coconut Cup, Registration is open until 2/13/2025!!! If you enter a coconut beer please specify base style and special ingredients!!!
8/2025 Commander SAAZ!! Entry window 6/16/25-7/23/25. We will have two full judging weekends and a Sunday judging session after sorting. Awards dinner and best of show will be held at Bugnutty this year on August 16th!!!

Beerfests:

1/25/25 1-4pm Science on tap!! Orlando Science Center.  SAAZ was a hit last year!!  Get your geek on so we can science it up beer style!!!

1/25 – Jupiter Craft Brewers Festival – Jupiter, FL

2/1/25 1pm – 5pm Cocoa Village Brewers Bash!!!! SAAZ will be pouring for this event as well!! We’ll need beers and volunteers for pouring!!! 401 River Edge Dr, Cocoa

02/22 – Florida Craft Brew and Wingfest, Vero Beach, FL
